The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Monday (July 6) issued a public notice introducing a schedule of spot fines for various sanitation-related offences across the city, with penalties ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 25,000.

Fines will be imposed on offences such as littering, illegal dumping, public urination, open defecation, spitting in public places, burning of waste and use of banned plastic items.
Here is the full list of spot fine:
1. Using banned plastic carry bags or prohibited single-use plastic items: Rs 500 spot fine
2. Spitting in public places: Rs 300 spot fine
3. Littering, illegal dumping of waste, public urination or open defecation: Rs 500 spot fine
4. Disposal of biomedical waste, e-waste, sanitary waste or other non-biodegradable waste in open: Rs 500 spot fine
5. Illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste on roads, public places or residential/commercial areas: Rs 2,000 spot fine
6. Dumping fish waste, poultry waste or slaughterhouse waste in open by commercial establishments: Rs 1,000 spot fine
7. Disposal of animal excreta in public places or failure to clean the same: Rs 500 spot fine
8. Dumping waste at parks, tourist places, scenic locations or by roadside vendors: Rs 500 spot fine
9. Damaging or interfering with municipal water supply infrastructure: Rs 500 spot fine
10. Damaging or interfering with sewerage infrastructure: Rs 500 spot fine
11. Illegal disposal of faecal sludge, septage or other harmful substances: Rs 2,000 spot fine.
12. Disposal of chemical waste within GMC limits: Rs 5,000 spot fine
13. Dumping waste, littering, burning waste, open defecation or any other activity affecting the cleanliness of rivers, drains, wetlands: Rs 1,000 spot fine
14. Pasting of posters on public places like government wall, drain's fencing, electric poles, pillars of bridges, etc: Rs 5,000 spot fine
15. Blocking of natural flow of waters in drain by dumping of materials: Rs 25,000 spot fine
16. Illegal dumping of trees and plants on roads/drains/water bodies/open plot or any other public places: Rs 500 spot fine.
The spot fines has also been notified to ensure compliance and promote a cleaner, healthier city.
